Y&R's New Adam!

Justin_Hartley28953.jpg

Adam is on his way back to Genoa City! THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS has confirmed that they have cast PASSIONS alum Justin Hartley as the character, and he should be back on screen just in time for November Sweeps (naturally)!

Hartley has more recently been seen in primetime series such as SMALLVILLE, REVENGE and MISTRESSES, but is excited to return to daytime. And Michael Muhney, the fan-favorite actor he is replacing, is urging fans to give him a shot. "I really like Justin Hartley," he tweeted. "He's a good guy. We really get along well. I wish him the best. Be kind to him."

What do you think about this casting? Will Hartley make a good Adam?

Who Is Y&R's Grace Turner?

GraceCassie.jpg

As viewers of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS saw at the end of the Monday, August 18, episode, Grace Turner, played by Jennifer Gareis (Donna, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL), will be popping up on Tuesday, August 19. Will she be able to give Nick some info about Mariah, who's a dead ringer for Sharon's late daughter, Cassie? If anyone has answers, it'd be Grace!

As longtime Y&R viewers know, Grace was Sharon's best pal in high school. When it looked like Sharon and Nick's newborn son, Noah, wasn't going to survive, Grace and her boyfriend Tony went searching for then five-year-old Cassie, hoping that bringing her back to Sharon would help ease the loss of Noah. After Noah ended up living (yay!), Grace, who convinced Cassie's adoptive grandmother Millie to relinquish custody, opted not to disrupt Sharon's life by reuniting her with Cassie for quite some time. When she did, Sharon and Nick welcomed Cassie into their lives.

Along the way, Grace fell for Nick and seduced the inebriated hunk (who thought he was making love to his wife)! Grace's obsession with Nick led to the end of her relationship with Tony and temporarily caused Nick and Sharon to split. Grace went on to have a dalliance with Michael Baldwin. When Victor found out about Grace's role in Nick and Sharon's marital woes, he arranged for her to get a job at one of Newman's divisions in New York.

Later, Grace returned to Genoa City, revealing her relationship with Cameron Kirsten, a man who was obsessed with Sharon. Nick's wife got the shock of her life when Cameron, whom she thought she had killed, turned up alive and began threatening her. It turned out that Grace was in cahoots with calculating Cameron. Grace tried to make amends for her dastardly deeds by helping Nick and Sharon bring Cameron to justice, and later returned to New York where she presumably has been living ever since.

Tune in to Y&R tomorrow to see what info Grace has to share with Nick about the mystery of Mariah!

Muhney Confirms No Return To Y&R

MichaelMuhney.jpg

Fans holding out hope that Michael Muhney would eventually return to the role of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Adam were disappointed when the actor dashed those hopes via Twitter. "Just got an official call," he posted on Wednesday, August 13. "Although things got very close, I will not be returning to Y&R. That part of my life is over. Moving on..."

However, according to Y&R insiders there were never any negotiations going on between the show and Muhney about him returning to play Adam.

The actor also tried to offer his fans some comfort by posting a quote from Dr. Seuss: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

While Adam has been seen on screen lately, his face has never been shown because the soap still has yet to cast an actor in the role. And unfortunately now it appears that whoever fills Adam's shoes, it won't be Muhney. "I was hopeful for a return," he also tweeted, "but now I'm hopeful for the future. Now you'll just have to promise to tune in to my future projects!"

One of his future projects is the upcoming TV movie Correcting Christmas, co-staring Gloria Loring (ex-Liz, DAYS OF OUR LIVES), which we'll have more information about as it comes in.

TV Legend Joining Y&R!

MeredithBaxter.jpg

Nikki is about to fall off the wagon on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, but she's going to have one heck of a drinking buddy! TV Guide is reporting that TV icon Meredith Baxter is joining the soap as a new character, Maureen.

Baxter is best known for her role on the classic TV sitcom FAMILY TIES, but the manipulative Maureen sounds like the polar opposite of Elyse Keaton! Look for Baxter to debut on Y&R on Monday, September 8, and appear through the fall. The original casting notice for the character said the run would last six to eight weeks, and the rumor is that Maureen has some connections in Genoa City! What do you think they could be?

Details about her character are being kept under wraps, but seeing as how she shares a last name with Mariah, there's obviously some kind of connection there, and the soap has confirmed that Logue will first appear in scenes with Joshua Morrow's Nick. The casting notice describes Helen as a trained nurse who was in and out of jobs, and she was a young mother... but an unwilling parent.

Polo Crosses THE BRIDGE

Daniel_Polo27575.jpg

When FX's crime thriller, THE BRIDGE, returns tonight, Wednesday, July 9, at 9:00 p.m. EST, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Daniel Polo will be a part of it. The Emmy nominee who broke hearts as Jamie, the troubled teen that Fenmore bullied, will be kicking the season off when he debuts in a similar role.

"I play Kyle, a nervous kid who gets in a little over his head with someone I meet at a car wash," Polo reveals of his character. "My scenes were with Franka Potente (AMERICAN HORROR STORY: ASYLUM). She has a really unique character [Eleanor Schrock, a ruthless, shunned Mennonite who is working for the cartel] this season for the show. It was great to work with her."

Being able to add this year's Peabody Award-winning drama to his resume was a thrill for Polo, but that's not all he took away from the experience. "I learned how to ride a bike for the project," he reveals. "Of course, I practiced at home on a regular bike before filming, and then on set they gave me a bike for a 10-year-old. The sizing was definitely off, but I made it work!"

And you'll want to hold on to your seats — this series that focuses on the joint battle against a Mexican drug cartel by an El Paso police detective and her counterpart from across the border is about to get intense. "I spent four hours in the make-up chair to film my final scene, which I believe is in the third episode," Polo teases. "It was a fun project to work on."

You'll Be FINDING Watros On TV Tonight!

CynthiaWatrosYR.jpg Remember when Cynthia Watros had to vacate her role as Kelly on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS because of a new primetime drama, MTV's FINDING CARTER? Well, you can see her in action when the show debuts tonight, Tuesday, July 8, at 10 p.m. EST on MTV! The 12-episode series focuses on Carter, a teenager (played by REIGN's Kathryn Prescott), who discovers that the woman who's been raising her isn't her mother -- Watros' character, Elizabeth, a police detective, is!

"I'm the mother of a teenaged girl and I was hoping to do one of those GILMORE GIRL type [shows]," executive producer Terri Minksy tells Soaps In Depth. "This brilliant, beautiful [script] was available and I took it! I really did respond to it and wanted to write a mother/daughter piece."

The pilot shows Carter and Lori (the mother who kidnapped her) having yogurt with a side of gummy bears and banter for dinner before Carter's world turns upside down. "That scene is almost literally a transcript of my life with my daughter," Minsky reveals. "We do the 'love you, love you more' thing that Carter and Lori do."

Scene-stealer Zac Pullman plays Grant, the younger brother Carter never met since he was conceived after she was kidnapped and became -- in his words -- the "replacement" child. "What does that do to him psychologically," Minksy rhetorically asks. "What will Carter's relationship with him be?"

CARTER scored a casting coup with Watros' TV parents -- they're played by Robert Pine (ex-Stephen, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIUFL) and Meredith Baxter (FAMILY TIES). "Writing for those two is beyond fun," Minksy shares.

For more on FINDING CARTER, pick up the next CBS issue of Soaps In Depth, on sale Monday, July 14!

Y&R's Serricchio Gets A Witchy Woman!

IgnacioSerricchioGal.jpg

On Lifetime's WITCHES OF EAST END, Ignacio Serricchio (Alex, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) could be just the thing to make Wendy's ninth and final life count... if she lets him! "She meets him in the [season premiere] episode," offers Executive Producer Maggie Friedman. "He's just a regular, salt of the earth guy, but he totally challenges her." Look for the duo to share sparks from the start, but can she get over her fear of mortality enough to enjoy it?

If the hot EMT can't heal what ails her, at a minimum, he could be quite the distraction! "He's so good and so sexy!" Friedman enthuses of the former soap star. "Mädchen Amick (Wendy) was kind enough to come in and read with different actors who were auditioning for the role, and she and Ignacio just had so much chemistry that we had to snatch him up. They're great together!"

Serricchio will appear for a multi-episode arc beginning Sunday, July 6, at 9:00 p.m. EST. There's a wickedly fun season ahead on WITCHES OF EAST END — for more details, catch Friedman's upcoming Primetime Preview interview in the ABC Soaps In Depth issue that goes on sale Monday, August 8.

THE TALK Goes In Depth!

DSC_0293.jpg

Soaps In Depth's own Michael Maloney is a guest on today's episode of THE TALK! "We've been working at putting together a time when we could do a book giveaway with The Young and Restless Life of William J. Bell and THE TALK's studio audience," says Maloney, who authored the tome along with Bell's wife, Lee Phillip Bell. "And the Daytime Emmys seemed like a perfect time to do that. It was very cool to see [host] Julie Chen hold up the book and hear her say that everyone in the studio audience was getting a copy, a perfect example of CBS Daytime synergy."

The women of THE TALK ask Maloney to weigh in on who'll take home the gold this Sunday at the Daytime Emmys. "This is one of the hardest years to predict since there so many great performances," he says. "I'm predicting that there will be a tie in one category."

"Also, Swoosie Kurtz (MIKE & MOLLY; Ellie, AS THE WORLD TURNS) is a guest on the show," Maloney adds. "She recounts a funny story about her days as an actress just starting out in New York City and how she auditioned — but failed to land — a role on a soap opera where she would have played a corpse!"

Daytime Emmy Awards Preview!

GrahnDiamontEmmyShow.jpg

Fans have lots of questions now that it's been announced that the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are going to be broadcast not on a network or cable outlet, but rather streamed via the Internet at www.daytimeemmys.net beginning at 5:00 p.m. PST on Sunday, June 22. Soaps In Depth spoke to David Michaels, Senior Executive Director, Daytime Emmy Awards for The National Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences, about what viewers can expect on the big day!

Soaps In Depth: Will the format be different? Will the show have a time limit?
David Michaels: As I understand it, the plan is for the show to go straight through — there will be no commercial breaks. We're treating it like a live show. It'll run for two hours.

In Depth: There tend to be fewer rules on the Internet about what people can do. Might we see more of a party atmosphere for this show?
Michaels: I'm not sure. It's the same setting room and people, the same party. I don't know if people will feel that they can take advantage of the "no-holds-barred" rules of the Internet or not.

EXCLUSIVE: Tom Speaks Out On Y&R Exit

DavidTom.jpg

With the shocking news that THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS is replacing the recently-returned David Tom with daytime newcomer Burgess Jenkins as Billy Abbott, Soaps In Depth reached out to the actor to get his perspective on the unexpected recast.

"It was such a great experience to have been a part of the Y&R family again," Tom tells In Depth. "It was wonderful to see so many old friends and people I know that I used to work with and enjoy so much like Jess Walton (Jill) and Peter Bergman (Jack). I got to do some scenes with Eric Braeden (Victor), finally."

The Emmy winner admits that he didn't see Y&R's decision coming. "I think I was definitely well-liked there," Tom muses. "As far as I knew, nobody knew about this. Not even the cast." Was he given a reason for his termination? "One of the reasons they said they let me go is that I obviously looked too young when they placed me with [the new] Kelly. Well, she was hired after I was. I don't understand why they didn't think about that [when they were casting her]. We don't really have a storyline [anyway]; She's with Jack. I thought I looked fine with Missy [Claire Egan, Chelsea]. I really loved working with her."

The actor is already making plans for the future, including putting together a demo reel out of his best scenes from this last trip to Genoa City. Is he up for another daytime gig? "Hell, yeah. I'd go in a heartbeat to another soap opera," he says. "I love to work.

"The worst thing you can do is mull about it," continues Tom, who adds that what he'll miss most is working alongside his fellow Y&R actors. "The whole cast is wonderful. I felt like they were a part of my family."

Tom Out At Y&R!

TomJenkins.jpg

Word on the street is that David Tom is out as Billy on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS! Daytime Confidential is reporting that the actor, who played the role from 1999 to 2002 and stepped in this year for the departing Billy Miller, is being replaced by Burgess Jenkins.

The soap is reportedly taking the character in a different direction, necessitating the recast. Jenkins has appeared in numerous primetime series including ARMY WIVES, NASHVILLE and ONE TREE HILL. Look for him to first appear in late June. "So excited to be joining the Y&R family!" the actor tweeted. "Thanks so much for the outpouring of warm welcome from all the fans!"

Y&R's New Phyllis Speaks Out!

Gina_Tognoni4549.jpg

Phyllis will be coming out of her coma this summer on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, but according to TV Guide, when she wakes up, she'll look a whole lot like GUIDING LIGHT's Dinah and ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Kelly. That's right, soap vet Gina Tognoni has been tapped by the soap to take over the role of the feisty redhead vacated last August by Michelle Stafford (who you can see starting Tuesday, June 3, as GENERAL HOSPITAL's Nina).

"I am beyond blessed to play this incredible role," Tognoni shared on Facebook. "I am thrilled to be back on CBS. Thank you for your support; I feel it in my HEART. So excited to work with this amazing cast and crew. I am grateful to my beautiful husband, my family, friends and the best FANS in the world."

No first airdate has been announced at this time, but look for Phyllis' recovery to throw a major monkey wrench into Jack's burgeoning relationship with Kelly! How do you feel about the recast?

Y&R Star Goes UNDER THE DOME

MaxEhrichGal.jpg

Max Ehrich (Fenmore, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) is joining the cast of UNDER THE DOME, which returns for its second season on Monday, June 30, at 10 p.m. on CBS. He'll play Hunter, who will first appear "digitally" in the third episode says executive producer Neal Bauer.

What does the new gig mean for Fen's future in Genoa City? Since Ehrich is not on contract with Y&R, the moonlighting shouldn't affect his position with the soap. Baer tells Soaps In Depth that Ehrich is set to appear in about six DOME episodes.
