Longtime AS THE WORLD TURNS fans might recognize Joseph Cross (Casey) guest-starring in tonight's episode of ELEMENTARY, airing at 10:00 p.m. ET on CBS. Cross plays Petros Franken.
Congratulations are in order for Vanessa Ray, who currently stars on CBS's primetime drama BLUE BLOODS, but soap fans will remember as AS THE WORLD TURNS' Teri she recently became engaged to boyfriend Landon Beard!
According to Hello Magazine, Beard proposed to the actress at one of their favorite spots in New York City, Pier 84 on the Hudson River, despite the frigid East Coast temperatures. And photos of the actual proposal were taken by a conveniently-placed tourist who was revealed to be Ray's good friend Kelly Sullivan (Sage, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS)! "Totally unbeknownst to me, he had Kelly fly out from L.A.," she confided to the magazine. "She was disguised in a black wig pretending to be a tourist taking pictures during the whole thing."
Best wishes to the happy couple for a lifetime together!
AS THE WORLD TURNS alum Agim Kaba (Aaron) has a new reason to celebrate New Year's! The actor/artist and his wife, Jaclyn, welcomed their first child on January 1! "My beautiful boy was born on New Year's Day," the proud pop tweeted, with a follow-up a few days later that "Archer is healthy and beautiful!"
Congratulations to the new parents!
It's a reunion! Former AS THE WORLD TURNS star Bailey Chase (Chris) (who currently plays Deputy Branch Connally on Netflix's LONGMIRE) is coming to NBC's CHICAGO P.D. beginning Wednesday, January 7, for a three-episode story arc. On the series which stars his fellow ATWT castmate Jesse Lee Soffer (Will) as a hotshot detective Chase will play opposite Sophia Bush (Lindsay) as a DEA agent who wants to snag her for his new task force. Tune in at 10 p.m. EST to catch it!
Marie Wilson, who is best known to CBS soap fans as AS THE WORLD TURNS' Meg and ABC soap fans as GENERAL HOSPITAL and PORT CHARLES' Karen, is adding a new soap to her resume! Starting this Halloween, the actress will be joining DAYS OF OUR LIVES as Bree, an old acquaintance of Hope's who also shares a past with Aiden. So look for her arrival in Salem to bring up some of the darker side of Aiden's history and throw quite the monkey wrench into his budding relationship with Hope!
Congratulations to AS THE WORLD TURNS alum Matthew Morrison (Adam), who married longtime girlfriend Renee Puente over the weekend! You can see a photo of the newlyweds by clicking here.
"Conquered Hurricane Ana and got married!" the actor tweeted. "Most amazing week ever." Best wishes to the happy couple!
AS THE WORLD TURNS' fan favorite Michael Park (Jack) has landed a three-episode arc on NBC's CHICAGO P.D. Speaking to Soaps In Depth directly from the Windy City where the series is produced, Park shares the details about his exciting new role, which begins airing Wednesday, October 15, at 10 p.m.
"Asher is a diamond dealer who hires Antonio Dawson, John Seda's character, to work private security for him," Park reveals. "He's a bit of a rough guy -- he's rough on his wife -- and Dawson is not used to taking orders from someone of my background, so there will be some tension there between the two of them for sure."
While Park did not get to work with fellow ATWT alum Jesse Lee Soffer (Will), who plays brash detective Jay Halstead on the drama, they did discover that they share yet another connection. "India de Beaufort (ONE TREE HILL) plays my wife in this, and she's wonderful," Park reveals. "She and Jesse know each other very well, so India and I got to know each other through that one degree of separation."
In other great news, Park has begun rehearsals for NBC's upcoming production of Peter Pan Live as Cecco, a pirate who will be a member of Captain Hook's (played by Christopher Walken) crew. The beloved musical is scheduled to air Thursday, December 4, at 8 p.m. EST. For more from the star, look for his upcoming Keeping Track feature in Soaps In Depth.
Tonight is going to be déjà vu all over again for John Wesley Shipp (Kelly, GUIDING LIGHT; Douglas, AS THE WORLD TURNS) when THE FLASH debuts on The CW at 8:00 p.m. EST. The two-time Emmy winner, who played the title role in the primetime series about the DC Comics character that ran (get it? "ran?") from 1990-91 on CBS, is appearing in the new series, but in a slightly different role.
Are there many similarities between soap opera fans and devotees of the superhero world? "That's a very interesting question," Shipp tells Soaps In Depth. "It's one I haven't been asked before so bravo! They are similar and, at times, an overlapping audience."
Shipp says that the series title character (aka Barry Allen), played by Grant Gustin, is an actor to watch. "He can do comedy, play a genius when Barry is analyzing a crime scene and then turn around and break your heart. He's got it all."
In this version of THE FLASH, Shipp is playing Barry's dad, Henry, who's been wrongly incarcerated for killing his wife. Watch for Shipp to recur throughout the season as Barry fights to clear his dad's name. "I've had scenes with Jesse L. Martin (Det. Joe West) whose character has drilled into Henry's son's head that his father was a killer. What will he do when he finds out that he was wrong?"
THE FLASH airs Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. EST on The CW, and you can read more about Shipp in the new issue of CBS Soaps In Depth, on newsstands now!

Charles Keating, best known to daytime audiences as villainous Carl Hutchins on ANOTHER WORLD, has passed away from cancer at the age of 72.
"Hearing the news from Stephen Schnetzer (Cass) was very difficult," AW castmate Linda Dano (Felicia) wrote on Facebook. "Thoughts of Charles flooded my memory because I loved this man the moment I saw him on the set of ANOTHER WORLD. He came to us an accomplished and talented actor. Our cast was very fortunate to have him working with us.
"Charles was a man of many colors both on screen and off," she continues. "His incredible talent and devoted friendship were the hallmarks of who he was. It's so hard to think of the vibrant man we all knew as having to deal with illness but he did so with his usual resolve. My heart goes out to his wife of over 50 years and his sons."
Keating's career spanned stage and screen over the years, including soap stints on AS THE WORLD TURNS (as Niles Mason), PORT CHARLES (as James Ritchfield) and ALL MY CHILDREN (as Damon Lazarre). He was nominated four times for the Daytime Emmy Awards, winning in 1996 for Lead Actor.
Soap hopper Brian Gaskill (GUIDING LIGHT's Dylan, AS THE WORLD TURNS' B.J., THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Oscar, PORT CHARLES' Rafe and ALL MY CHILDREN's Bobby) has just released a dramatic short film called The Speech. "I'm very excited about getting this film out there," he says.
Gaskill not only stars in the short opposite actress Clea Rivera, but also wrote the script and co-directed it. "It takes place at a wedding reception," the actor explains, "and is about a couple exploring their past together and what that means to their relationship now.
"Soap viewers will be super comfortable with the romantic setting and wedding wardrobe," Gaskill adds with a chuckle before warning: "But it definitely takes a turn away from standard soap fare... it may get a little racy!"
The Speech was funded through Kickstarter with donations from friends and fans, and you can watch it now below. "I couldn't have done it without Ambika Leigh, Garrett Robinson and the whole gang at the film collective and workshop, We Make Movies," Gaskill declares proudly.
Actor James Rebhorn died on Friday, March 21, at the age of 65. Rebhorn was a well-known character actor who appeared in films such as Independence Day and Scent Of A Woman as well as TV series like WHITE COLLAR and HOMELAND. But he is best known to daytime fans as AS THE WORLD TURNS' Henry Lange and GUIDING LIGHT's Bradley Raines.
"I am deeply... profoundly saddened to hear of the death of my friend and colleague Jim Rebhorn," Robert Newman (Josh, GL) posted to Facebook. "We first crossed paths in 1984 when he joined the cast of GL to play as he often did, totally against type the role of a brutal, abusive stepfather. Jim was, of course, the nicest man on the planet. Rest well, Jim. You've earned it. Too soon. Too soon by far."
GL's Grant Aleksander (Phillip) shares, "Jim was a wonderful man and a fantastic actor. So sad that he is gone way too soon."
Brooke Sunny Moriber, who played a young Angel on ATWT posted to Facebook: "James may have been the nicest man I have ever worked with. My heart aches that he is no longer with us. He was just the nicest guy you could ever cast as a villain. I remember him actually shaking because it was so difficult for him to embody such an evil character."
Michael O'Leary (Rick, GL), says, "Jim was a man of immense class and dignity. He was a consummate professional, and a gentleman. And I was just in awe of his talent. I'll miss him dearly."
Rebhorn's death comes after a long battle with skin cancer. Our condolences go out to his friends and family, including his wife, Rebecca, and two daughters. You can read the actor's New York Times obituary here. The actor also penned his own obituary during his final days, which was posted by his New Jersey church and can be read here.
Daytime dramas have seen an uptick in ratings, but in recent years have gone through quite a bit of turmoil. And over those years, the documentary Soap Life examined the plight of the American soap opera. Now, Soap Life is being released worldwide today on a host of platforms like iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and Vudu. The feature features interviews from fans, directors, producers and actors like Rick Hearst (Ric, GENERAL HOSPITAL; ex-Whip, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL), Bobbie Eakes (Krystal, ALL MY CHILDREN; ex-Macy, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) and more!
For a preview, you can watch the trailer below!
As Soaps In Depth first reported in our issue that went on sale this week, Cady McClain (Kelly, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS; Rosanna, AS THE WORLD TURNS) and Jon Lindstrom (Kevin, GENERAL HOSPITAL; Craig, ATWT) have come forward to publicly announce that they've tied the knot!
The couple became man and wife on Friday, February 14, meaning that Valentine's Day is going to be extra-special from now on! McClain and Lindstrom had a small, intimate ceremony, and in keeping with their low-key attitude, hadn't made a big announcement until now.
Congratulations to the happy couple, and best wishes for the future!
Next Wednesday, March 5, marks the launch of an exciting new Web soap, BEACON HILL! New media pioneer Crystal Chappell (Dani, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL; Olivia, GUIDING LIGHT, etc.) is part of the team behind the drama, which centers on two Boston families at opposite ends of the political spectrum.
With political rivalries, romances gone bad, blackmail and family dysfunction, BEACON HILL has all the makings of a must-see series! In anticipation of the show's premiere, Soaps In Depth chatted up some of the top players in the drama for the scoop!
Alicia Minshew (Sara Preston)
"Sara left the love of her life, Kate, for this reporting job, and the break-up was painful. She's now come back to Beacon Hill for a job and bumps into Kate, so it's reigniting feelings. There are issues with Sara and her grandfather, whom Kate is now working with, and she has a tumultuous relationship with her mother, who is a drinker. She's trying to be a good reporter but stay true to her family. Everything kind of gets mixed up and muddled!"
Sarah Brown (Katherine "Kate" Wesley)
"When Crystal sent me the script, I read all 12 episodes and called her immediately. I originally wanted to play the character of Sara -- I understood where she's coming from. But Katherine ended up being much more of a challenge. I love every bit of this."

Tamara Tunie (Jessica, AS THE WORLD TURNS) plays Marie Van Der Veen in THE RED ROAD, a dark and dramatic primetime serial that premieres on the Sundance Channel Thursday, February 27, at 9 p.m. EST. The edge-of-your-seat drama deals with two conflicting communities (Native Americans and local townspeople) and stars Martin Henderson (The Ring) as lawman Harold Jensen, who's trying to keep his crumbling family together, and Jason Momoa (GAME OF THRONES) as Phillip Copus, an ex-con who uses both his charm and commanding presence to scheme and manipulate.
"Marie's very strong and is rooted in the earth," Tunie tells Soaps In Depth. "She's a nurturer and an advocate, but she has also has a dark past. She appears to be on the side of the right, but she's made some mistakes in her life as well."

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Kelly is about to get an extreme makeover as daytime vet Cady McClain (Dixie, ALL MY CHILDREN; Rosanna, AS THE WORLD TURNS) is taking over for Cynthia Watros, who was unable to juggle the soap with her new role in the upcoming MTV series FINDING CARTER. A rep for Y&R confirms the recast, adding "We are excited to welcome Cady to the show."
Watros posted to Facebook that she was leaving for Atlanta in two weeks for a five-month shoot. "A big, big thank you to the Y&R cast and crew," she wrote. "I loved being on your show. Thank you Y&R fans, I love how passionate you are. I'm sorry I couldn't stay. I hope I didn't let you down."
Watros' last day on set will be Friday, March 14, and she is scheduled to last air as Kelly on Wednesday, April 16. McClain first reports for work on Wednesday, March 26, and will first air on Thursday, April 24. So it looks like Kelly will be sticking around Genoa City for a while, now. But will she keep pursuing Billy or set her sights on another man?
Cady McClain (Rosanna, AS THE WORLD TURNS; Dixie, ALL MY CHILDREN) is self-publishing her memoir, titled Murdering My Youth. And the actress is having a contest in which fans can vote on what the final cover will be! Click here to pick your favorite!
"The book is a series of my memories about growing up in an alcoholic environment," McClain shares with Soaps In Depth. "It is also a raw, brutally honest look at what being in 'show business' can entail for a young girl and the extremely close relationship I had with my mother."
The two-time Emmy winner says that she's been told that the book should come with a warning. "There's a lot of violence in it," she allows.
What led McClain to join the list of soap stars who've chronicled their life stories? "I was inspired by a woman who asked me to be the keynote speaker at her writers' conference in Kansas City called Write The Dream," she says. "She had followed my blogs throughout the years and offered to help me self-publish this book. Her encouragement was a huge part of me letting this story out into the world. I hope it inspires others to tell their story or at least to not feel so alone with their experiences."
McClain will be signing copies of Murdering My Youth at the Write The Dream Conference in Kansas City, MO, on Friday, March 7. Click this link for more information. And as the keynote speaker, she will be encouraging her audience to find their voice via a method she calls "dreaming your way to a great, personal story. It's basically like taking a person's psyche and putting it in the structure of a fairy tale or myth."
McClain say that she loves to teach and interact with other creative minds. Curious what else has been going on in her head? Then check out Flip Fantasia, her trippy short film about four young urban men coping with the tragic after-effects of a wild night out in New York City, when it screens as at the Macon Film Festival. Catch it at the Cox Capital Theatre in Macon, GA, on Friday, February 28 a 4:14 p.m. or you can watch it on YouTube by clicking this link!
The nominees for the Fifth Annual Indie Series Awards were revealed recently, and include many familiar faces from daytime soaps who have done some incredible work in Web series over the past year.

Alicia Minshew (Kendall, ALL MY CHILDREN) was also nominated for Best Lead Actress - Drama for her role in TAINTED DREAMS. How many of the Web soaps have you seen? Are you supporting these Internet series?
A slew of familiar faces are starring in the new Web series BEACON HILL, including Sarah Brown (ex-Claudia, GENERAL HOSPITAL; ex-Agnes, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) Alicia Minshew (Kendall, ALL MY CHILDREN), and Crystal Chappell (Dani, B&B; Olivia, GUIDING LIGHT) The serial, filmed on location in Boston, was co-created by Jessica Hill and her wife Linda, who is the chief executive officer of Bella Books, a publisher of lesbian fiction.
"BEACON HILL is a political drama set in Boston," Jessica tells Soaps In Depth. "Alicia and Sarah are our two leads, and they play the daughters of two political families in Boston. One's Republican and the other is Democrat. Alicia's character, Sara, and Sarah's character, Katherine, were together [romantically] and they broke up. Our story starts six years later when Sara's grandfather, played by Ron Raines [Carl, OLTL; Alan, GL], has a stroke. Sara, who's living in New York, comes back to Boston and you see dynamics between her family and Katherine start to develop."
The rest of the cast which reads like a Who's Who of daytime includes Scott Bryce (Craig, ATWT), Ricky Paull Goldin (Jesse, B&B; Gus, GL), Louise Sorel (ex-Vivian, DAYS), Tina Sloan (Lillian, GL), John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex, OLTL), Jessica Morris (Jen, OLTL), and Melissa Archer (Natalie, OLTL). Also in the cast is newcomer Rebecca Mozo.
BEACON HILL is produced by Bella Productions, the sister company of Bella Books, in association with Chappell's production company, Open Book Productions. Goldin and Emmy-winning actress Hillary B. Smith (Nora, OLTL; Margo, ATWT) serve as producers on the show.
Chappell, who has helmed Web series VENICE and THE GROVE, plays Claire, Sara's mother. How did that work, since there's less than a decade between the two actresses? "I age myself," Chappell confides. "I went without makeup and I wear my hair severely it's in a twist and high up on top. It's a fun character to play. Claire's husband is gone. My feeling is he couldn't tolerate her family.
"BEACON HILL is a very different show," Chappell adds. "It's a political drama with intrigue and romance revolving around two political families. Jessica and Linda are terrific people and writers. I love working with them!"
BEACON HILL begins streaming on Wednesday, March 5. For more info, check out www.beaconhilltheseries.com
Soap-hopper Daniel Cosgrove (Chris, AS THE WORLD TURNS; Bill, GUIDING LIGHT; Scott, ALL MY CHILDREN) is settling into a new daytime address, this time in Salem! Beginning in late January, the actor will be portraying DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Aiden, which will actually be the first time he'll be creating an original character from scratch instead of stepping into another performer's shoes as a recast! Will you be tuning in?
Brian Gaskill grabbed our attention playing emotional characters like GUIDING LIGHT's Dylan, AS THE WORLD TURNS' BJ, and THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Ozzy. Since then, he's been pouring his own emotions into a considerable body of poetry, which he's been recording to share with the world. "When I compiled this new group of poems together, I found that they were much more cohesive and thematic than what was on my last album (Make It Real)," he says. "With this new one, every single piece really did become -- either on purpose or inadvertently -- a reflection of the title, Giving Up Time Travel For The Rain."
In the just-released collection of spoken word recordings, Gaskill shares his thoughts on the everyman quest for personal peace and life acceptance. "It's about living in the moment and not focusing on that pain in the past or your expectations of the future," the poet offers. "It's about just being present -- even if it's raining -- because as we all know, the rain cleanses things and helps them grow."
The artist has also been sharing his insightful thoughts and moving poems about this topic and more via a blog, http://givinguptimetravel.blogspot.com. "There's this 31-day journey that I started in conjunction with this album coming out," he explains. "It's about working to find something new each day that brings me closer to a place of believing -- in the magical, fairytale sense -- in life's possibilities."
We already reported that Joe West, the son of Maura West (Ava, GENERAL HOSPITAL; Carly, AS THE WORLD TURNS) and Scott DeFreitas (Andy, ATWT), had been cast in the upcoming The Sound Of Music Live, but it turns out that the actress has a connection to yet another member of the cast! Her ATWT hubby Michael Park (Jack) will be playing Baron Elberfeld in the special live telecast!
The Sound Of Music Live stars Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer, but soap fans will also spot John Bolger (ex-Mayor Floyd, GH; ex-John, ONE LIFE TO LIVE) as Admiral von Schreiber. The three-hour live show will air Thursday, December 5 at 8:00 pm EST.
Maura West (Ava, GENERAL HOSPITAL; Carly, AS THE WORLD TURNS) and husband Scott DeFreitas (Andy, AS THE WORLD TURNS) have some very talented kids who are following in their footsteps, especially son Joe West. Having previously appeared on Broadway in A Christmas Story and in a production of Sleepless In Seattle, Joe has now been cast as Kurt in NBC's telecast of The Sound Of Music Live! (That's him sitting on the right side of the couch in the photo above.)
The three-hour live telecast is scheduled to air on Thursday, December 5, at 8:00 pm EST. The Sound Of Music Live! stars Carrie Underwood as Maria and TRUE BLOOD's Stephen Moyer as Captain von Trapp.
Soaps In Depth has learned exclusively that Mark Collier (Mike, AS THE WORLD TURNS) has been cast on DAYS OF OUR LIVES in a newly-created role! He's already been on set taping, and is scheduled to air beginning in late December.
We don't have any information on his character yet, except that it's new to the canvas. But he'll have something in common with at least one of his co-stars... Shawn Christian (Daniel) originated the role of ATWT's Mike back in 1994. He played the part until 1997, and Collier took over when the soap decided to bring the character back in 2002!
When AS THE WORLD TURNS' Noelle Beck (Lily) guest stars on ELEMENTARY on Thursday, October 17, she won't be the murder victim. "I am suspected of murdering my husband," the actress previews, adding with a laugh, "It seems to be what people see me as for some strange reason!"
Having turned out to be the guilty party when she guested on an episode of LAW & ORDER: SVU, could the same happen here? "It's sort of a really interesting episode," Beck promises. "There are a lot of suspects. So you're like, 'Is it this person? Is it that person?' It's got kind of good twists."
The appearance also reunited Beck with an old castmate! "I got to work with Lucy Liu again," she smiles. "We worked together on CASHMERE MAFIA, and she's absolutely one of the sweetest actresses out there." She met new faces as well. "The Broadway actress, Laura Benanti, she's gorgeous," Beck adds. "And she plays my nanny! There's no way I would have hired this beautiful girl to be my nanny! But she was lovely. And I mean, I've had a crush on Aidan Quinn since Legends Of The Fall, so that was fun, working with him. And I got to see some crew members that I've worked with before, so that was great!"
To find out if Holmes and Watson finger Beck's character for the crime, don't miss the episode of ELEMENTARY titled "Poison Pen," premiering Thursday, October 17, at 10:00 pm EST on CBS!
You may have heard that Jon Lindstrom (Kevin, GENERAL HOSPITAL; Craig, AS THE WORLD TURNS) directed an acclaimed film about secrets, denial, revenge and murder titled How We Got Away With It. But you may not be aware that you can actually attend a free screening of the movie on Friday, October 18 as part of The Director's Guild Of America's Director's Finder Series!
"Having my first feature selected for the DGA's Director's Finder Series is a great honor, and also a big break," Lindstrom tells Soaps In Depth. "It's really a venue for the Industry and potential distributors to discover a film they might be interested in but had missed during its festival run. This gives them the chance to see your film in a great theater and gauge an audience's true reaction. Wish me luck!"
Lindstrom himself is scheduled to attend the screening on Friday, October 18, at 3:00 pm. The screening will be at the DGA Theater 2 at 7920 Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, CA. For your free ticket, all you have to do is RSVP to (310) 289-2034 or E-mail email@example.com. But you must RSVP if you would like to attend!
AS THE WORLD TURNS alum Trent Dawson (Henry) will be starring in a brand new play by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Bruce Norris entitled The Pain And The Itch. The subversive satire about the politics of class and race in the Pacific Palisades will be running from Saturday, October 26, through Sunday, December 1, at The Zephyr Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.
Gathering together for Thanksgiving, a seemingly perfect family is thrown into chaos as a couple guests join in one of whom is Dawson's character, a staunch Republican named Cash!
"The great thing about Bruce Norris' plays is that they deal with both the personal and the political," says the play's director, Jennifer Chambers. "The situations he creates are tense and troubling, but also hilarious and true. He turns our perceptions completely upside down."
The Pain And The Itch will also have discounted preview performances on Thursday, October 24, and Friday, October 25. For tickets and more information, call (323) 960-5774 or visit the Web site.
AS THE WORLD TURNS' Martha Byrne (Lily) is going to be in a bit of a crisis next year... as in CRISIS, the new primetime drama set to premiere midseason on NBC! The political thriller stars Gillian Anders and Dermot Mulroney, and centers around the kidnapping of a school bus of children that include the president's son.
"Great role," Byrne teased on Twitter without revealing exactly what part she will play in the series. "Details coming!" After flying to Chicago to the show's set, she reported: "Filming is going great. The cast and crew have welcomed me with open arms. Happy to be a part of the team."
We'll keep you appraised of when CRISIS is set to premiere as soon as NBC schedules a date, as well as more details on Byrne's character and her specific airdates!
Jeff Meek, best known to soap fans as AS THE WORLD TURNS' Craig and SEARCH FOR TOMORROW's Quinn, is headed to primetime in Lifetime's new thriller, Taken: The Search For Sophie Parker. "Julie Benz [DEFIANCE, DEXTER] is a widowed New York detective and I play her partner, a sort of hard-boiled street guy from Brooklyn," Meek reveals of the film he made recently in Bulgaria. "He's in love with her has been for a long time but she's been struggling with the loss of her husband. He challenges her to let him be in her life."
The budding romance gets put on hold when the daughter of Benz's character (Naomi Battrick) gets abducted while visiting Moscow with a girlfriend (Jemma Dallender) that just happens to be the ambassador's daughter! "That's the caper of the piece: Julie's character travels to Russia to find her, and I provide support from New York with things that she needs to have done."
The frantic search proves complicated when the teenagers fall into a Russian sex slavery ring and become potential victims of human trafficking. "I didn't realize the vastness of [the problem]... it's prevalent all over the world," Meek offers. "It's mostly for the sex trade because they get young women and then indoctrinate them and send them all over the world them. It's horrible!"
The thriller airs Saturday, September 21, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 22, at 12 a.m. EST on Lifetime. For more of what Meek's been up to lately, check out his upcoming Keeping Track feature in Soaps In Depth.
Libby, the short film that AS THE WORLD TURNS' Colleen Zenk (Barbara) starred in is an official finalist/selection of the Los Angeles International Film Festival LA Shorts Fest. In the wry and touching film, Zenk plays the title character, a woman grasping for one last bit of happiness before undergoing an operation that will change her life. "It's a beautiful little script," Zenk gushes. "And I love the other actor I worked with, whose name is Liam Mitchell. It's just a lovely script by a young filmmaker by the name of Jameson Locasio. He's won all kinds of awards."
But you don't have to worry about getting a ticket to the LA Shorts Fest (or finding your way to LA on top of that!) you can watch the entire short film right here!
This fall, AS THE WORLD TURNS alum Vanessa Ray (Teri) will be joining the cast of the CBS drama BLUE BLOODS as Eddie, the new partner for Will Estes' Jamie. In last season's finale, the Reagan family rallied together to take down the gang responsible for the death of Jamie's partner, and as this season begins, new partner Eddie will find herself thrust into the conflict alongside them! BLUE BLOODS' fourth season premieres on Friday, September 27, at 10:00 pm EST on CBS!
Fresh off his Tony Award nomination for his role in Broadway's Vanya and Sonia And Masha And Spike, AS THE WORLD TURNS alum Billy Magnussen (Casey) has now been cast in the feature film musical Into The Woods alongside stars like Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp. Magnussen is reportedly replacing Jake Gyllenhaal as Rapunzel's prince, and another CBS Daytime grad is playing the princess with the long locks: THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's Mackenzie Mauzy (ex-Phoebe)! In addition, GUIDING LIGHT alum Tammy Blanchard (Drew) has been cast as Florinda.
The film adaptation of the Broadway musical is set to begin filming soon, and is scheduled to debut in theaters in December 2014!
How would you like to take a cruise with AS THE WORLD TURNS' Martha Byrne (Lily)? Well, technically the ship isn't going to go anywhere, but Soap Fan Cruises and Carnival Cruise Lines are holding a luncheon on one of their ships in New York City on Saturday, August 24, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm where fans will have the opportunity to take a tour of a Carnival Fun Ship and enjoy lunch with the actress!
The ship is the same one that will host the Soap Reunion 2014 cruise, where fans will be able to cruise with ATWT stars Byrne, Colleen Zenk (Barbara), Trent Dawson (Henry) and Michael Park (Jack). And for just the cost of a $25 ticket, you'll be able to get a taste of what that cruise might be like. As a bonus, Carnival Cruise Lines is donating 100% of that ticket price to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a charity near and dear to Byrne's heart.

This sounds like something that could have been taken right out of an AS THE WORLD TURNS script: Zach Roerig (Casey) -- who now stars as Matt on the CW primetime drama THE VAMPIRE DIARIES -- is locked in a legal battle with a woman named Alanna Turner for full custody of their 2-year-old daughter. According to documents obtained by TMZ, now that Turner has been sentenced to Federal prison for "various crimes," Roerig is seeking full custody of their child. Read the full story at TMZ.
The Smithsonian has begun gathering items for its collection of iconic items from daytime television for the National Museum Of American History, starting with the gown and shoes worn by Susan Lucci (ex-Erica, ALL MY CHILDREN) after her memorable Emmy win, as well as items from JEOPARDY and BARNEY. You can watch a video of the presentation below including Lucci's emotional speech. The next soap item donated was announced by Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) during the most recent Daytime Emmys: The wedding worn by Nikki during her wedding to Victor.
The Smithsonian is creating a wish list of items that currently include the DAYS OF OUR LIVES hourglass, the AMC opening book, Barnabas' cape, ring and cane from DARK SHADOWS as well as memorabilia from daytime talk shows, children's shows and more. But they are aware that nobody knows daytime better than its fans, so they're looking for your input on what their collection should include. Put your ideas in the comments or send NATAS a message via the Daytime Emmy Awards' official Facebook page!
AS THE WORLD TURNS' Colleen Zenk played one of daytime's most legendary characters as Barbara Ryan, and she's about to take on yet another legendary role as she will be starring as Tallulah Bankhead in the Regional Theatre premiere of Looped at Stageworks/Hudson. Based on a true story, the inebriated actress is called upon to re-record one line of dialogue from her film Die! Die! My Darling! and in the process, botches every take and faces off against her uptight film editor. Valerie Harper starred in the Broadway production of the comedy, and Stephanie Powers took over for her and took the show on tour. Zenk says "I will be only the third actor to take on this challenging, extraordinary, hilarious role. I am overwhelmed, excited and can't wait for rehearsals to begin!"
Looped will run from Wednesday, July 10, through Sunday, July 28, at Stageworks/Hudson in Hudson, NY. For more information and to order tickets, you can visit their Web site by clicking here.
Llanview is about to get a bunch of new residents as The OnLine Network has announced some new casting information for ONE LIFE TO LIVE, and some of them will be familiar faces to fans of CBS Daytime!
Thursday, June 27, will mark the first appearance of Paolo Seganti (Damian, AS THE WORLD TURNS) as the wealthy art dealer Arturo Bandini as well as Alice Callahan (Jessica, GOSSIP GIRL) as Kate, Jack's summer school teacher.
ATWT's Marnie Shulenburg (Alison) joins the cast on Tuesday, July 23 as Jo Sullivan, a producer for David's reality series. And GUIDING LIGHT's Ron Raines (Alan) arrives on Tuesday, August 20, as Carl Peterson, Jeffrey's mysterious benefactor.
The networks recently revealed their upcoming primetime plans, and there are quite a few daytime alums who will be gracing our TV screens in these new series!
Wendy Moniz (ex-Mayor Finn, ONE LIFE TO LIVE; Dinah, GUIDING LIGHT) is in the cast of BETRAYAL, a sudsy-sounding drama that also stars James Cromwell and Henry Thomas.
And two of AS THE WORLD TURNS' former Lucys have new primetime gigs: Spencer Grammer will be in NBC's crime-drama IRONSIDE, based on the '60s series, and Peyton List will be starring in The CW's THE TOMORROW PEOPLE, a sci-fi adventure based on a UK series from the '70s about teenagers with powerful psychic powers.
Natalie Hall (ex-Colby, ALL MY CHILDREN) will be featured in STAR-CROSSED, a new CW drama set in a world where an alien race have landed on Earth and been forced to live in an internment camp. But things get interesting when an alien boy and eight others of his kind are integrated in a suburban high school, and a romance develops between him and a human girl.
And AMC's Sarah Michelle Gellar (ex-Kendall) and OLTL's Amanda Setton (ex-Kimberly) will be appearing in CRAZY ONES, a new CBS comedy set in the world of advertising and starring Robin Williams.
Back in March we told you about a collaboration between NATAS and the Smithsonian Institute to bring some of the most iconic daytime television memorabilia to the national museum, and today the first donations were presented!
Today's ceremony officially launched a three-year collecting initiative between the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) and the National Museum of American History, aiming to help the museum expand its capacity to tell the story of daytime television and the Daytime Emmy Awards. At the ceremony, the Smithsonian accepted artifacts that reflect the contributions of daytime television programming, including a 1984 JEOPARDY! script from Alex Trebek, objects from the children's series BARNEY, and the gown that Susan Lucci (ex-Erica, ALL MY CHILDREN) wore on the cover of People magazine celebrating her legendary Daytime Emmy win. "They've asked me for [an AMC] script as well," the iconic daytime actress tells Soaps In Depth. "Plus, People is doing a big blow-up of the cover."
The daytime television collection (which will include children's programming, talk shows, game shows and cooking shows) will be part of a larger entertainment exhibit scheduled to open in 2015. "Right now, the area that the museum is going to devote to this exibit on American culture at large is under reconstruction," curator Dwight Blocker Bowers tells In Depth. "We have a very small soap opera collection, and this is an opportunity for us to add to it."
For more on this collaboration, check out an upcoming issue of Soaps In Depth.
Remember the Web series STEAMBOAT, the comedy about the last days of a dying soap opera that featured GUIDING LIGHT's Michael O'Leary (Rick) and AS THE WORLD TURNS' Michael Park (Jack) among other familiar faces from daytime dramas? Well, Studio 47 Productions and ConvergTV's The Venture Channel have announced that STEAMBOAT will now be available on Roku and NetTalk TV as phase one of a global rollout for the network and the show.
Studio 47 Productions is headed up by O'Leary and Scott Bryce (Craig, ATWT), and also has three more comedies in development and a reality show set to begin production this summer. There are currently 2 episodes of STEAMBOAT with 11 more in pre-production.
